“Settling in the Western Home: Norwegians in the Upper Midwest”
April 30, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeWhat happened after the Norwegians settled onto their new farms and communities? What kinds of cultural and ethnic encounters between Norwegians and other groups took place? Our speaker will examine the consequences of the contact with the greater society in a way in which we can decipher cultural change and cultural retention.
Our speaker Terje Mikael Joranger is the managing director of the Norwegian Emigration Museum at Hammar, Noway. He holds a Ph. D in history from the University of Oslo and has given presentations at several international conferences and is widely published on the subject of ethnicity and emigration. He has served on the board of the Norwegian American History team in Norway. We are pleased to welcome him to Livsreise.
