Nancy’s Norwegian roots are in the Stavanger area in Rogaland county. She began rosemaling in 2000 and soon found that she was “addicted” to this art form and wanted to learn more and become better at her craft. In 2013 she applied for and received a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board that allowed her to become an apprentice under Vesterheim Gold Medalist holder, Andrea Herkert. All along this journey she kept entering pieces in the annual Vesterheim Folk Art competition and began winning ribbons for her work. At this year’s competition she finally received the Gold Medal. This put her in the company of two other women from Stoughton, Ethel Kvalheim and Vi Thode ( both deceased) who also earned the gold medal in rosemaling from the Vesterheim! In addition to her presentation, she brought along many pieces of her work for the audience to examine more closely after her talk was completed.
