Livsreise is pleased to share the unique story of a twenty-two year-old woman, Ninna Saanum, great-grandmother of Kari Grønningsæter. In 1913 she joined her father, a sailing ship captain, on a voyage around the world. She kept a journal and also took photographs aboard the tall ship Svaland. Until now the story has been preserved and kept in the family. Note that this journey took place at the end of commercial sailing and the outbreak of WWI. These writings and photos have now been made into a book that was co-authored by our two presenters.
Kari Grønningsæter will be speaking from Norway and Nick Preus will be speaking from Decorah, Iowa. Both are emeriti professors from Luther College in Decorah, where Nick used to teach English and Kari used to teach Norwegian. At present the book is only available in Norwegian.
