On Saturday, November 2, Carolyn Benforado, wearing her Voss Bunad spoke at Livsreise.

She talked about the history of the Norwegian textile arts tradition in Stoughton. This included the making of the first bunads for the Stoughton Norwegian Dancers by Alma Tenjum, and later Ruth Dietzman and other current seamstresses. Another prominent woman to make note of was Marion Keebaugh, who moved to Stoughton in her retirement years. She taught both Hardanger stitchery and bunad making classes through Madison Area Technical College. Marion was also the designer and creator of Stoughton’s own bunad which debuted in 1997.  Note the two dolls in the photo clad in Stoughton bunads created by Carolyn. These traditions are alive and well today in Stoughton.
